People keep saying "eating meat is not a crime" in the comments as if your sign says "vegetarian" and as if people depend on the law to show the way on their moral compass. Many immoral things are perfectly legal and many illegal things are very immoral. In many parts of the world child brides aren't illegal, beating your wife isn't illegal etc. Yet it's perfectly fine to use many types of hate speech in many places. I'm sure you get the point and I don't need to give other examples. But in some parts of the world it is a crime to eat animals, to slaughter them for consumption and to sell their dead bodies and/or eggs. Take Palitana in India for example! The word "vegan" isn't used there but the people there don't consume animals or most animal products. It works out healthier, less expensive and it works as a prevention of sickness rather than developing an immunity to antibiotics from consuming so much animal flesh. Besides, veganism isn't about a diet. Going by the roots of veganism, it's actually rather anti-diet-culture. Veganism is a sociopolitical movement which started in the 1944 in reaction to the horrendous things Hitler did and the things done under his power. Veganism's roots are in antifascism, anticlassism, antiracism, antiableism, anticapitalism, antisexism, antihomophobia and antispeciesism. Folks seen the horrible things happening to fellow humans and swore from then on they'd try to live as ethically as they could. That means if you need medication but the only one available has been tested on animals, it's okay to take it. If you're LITERALLY starving on a desert island(antivegans love this argument) it's okay to eat the chicken that's there with you in order to save your own life. If you're homeless and someone says you can sleep on their leather couch, that's okay to do and so on. I'm sure I don't need to explain it anymore than that. It's very unfortunate but nowadays due to "influencers" on YouTube and similar sites, people seem to think that veganism and plantbased diet are the same. They are not. Veganism affects what/who you eat, what/who you wear, what/who you drink, what pens/razors/tampons/hair dye(because yes, they're all tested on animals) you use, what words you use because of anti-speciesism and speciesism, what your beliefs towards abortion/racism/homophobia/transphobia/capitalism/sexism/ableism/speciesism/authoritarianism are, what companies you support, where you go for entertainment(not zoos, aquariums, circuses etc.) and so on. When a person who knows all that tells you they're vegan, they're using one simple word to sum all of that up. Whereas someone who's plantbased just eats a lot of food made from plants. That's it! Also, for everyone talking about vegetarian issues, most vegans don't take vegetarians seriously due to their lack of commitment to animal rights. Vegans believe in animal rights, vegetarians believe in animal welfare. Vegetarians still exploit animals, wear their skin, drink their bodily fluids, use products tested on them etc. even when they've the choice not to.
