You all with the negative comments, who are you to say what is supposed to be and what isnt? Putting vegans down is wrong, judging someone based on their diet and their beliefs is just as bad and just as stupid for judging others for liking the same sex. People can choose to be vegan because of the health benefits or for benefitting the environment, but the main reason vegans are vegans are for the animals, not because we think the animals are better but because we believe they are equals, a life is a life. Veganism is a step toward ending violence and compassion for all. We are not saying hey be vegan because it's what we believe and you have to be, we are saying we don't eat animals and often people wonder why, we are here to educate, and to show kindness to all. There are the extremists of course that make everyone look bad, but if you could look past that and look at the person for the kindness they are doing instead of wondering where our protein comes from that would be great. P.S. My girlfriend is not vegan, and I still love her. Sorry saw all those awful comments uvu rant over
Why? O: I can't imagine one reason It's cheaper, it's healthier, it might be hard with parents, but you can convince them by doing a lot of research and explaining them how you get all needed nutrients.
Vegan food is the cheapest! Noodles, rice, frozen vegetable packs, fruits, bred, grain products The poorest people on earth eat vegan. Meat can never be cheaper, because it's a bodypart of an animal, which was fed with the food you could eat directly. For every kg meat you need to invest 16kg of grain, 20.000l of water and some space for it to grow up. You pay for all that. Try some noodles, rice, potatoes or beans. They are cheap and there is nothing more filling!
You can't hunt in a city. Believe me, I lived years on nothing but rice and noodles, when my mom didn't have work. Or just go to a supermarket: 1/2kg of uncooked rice cost 49 cent (€) here. 1750kcal for 49 cent. That's nothing!
...So what are we gonna do with all these leftover cows?
Not many enemies, you know. Except maybe a wolf or two...but bulls got horns. But you know, I would like to go outside one day and see a wild cow. But where I live, there are TONS of them and the only natural predator they are going to have is a car.
The food chain is not only enjoyment, but the balance of nature and us humans don't need to screw around with it anymore than it already is.
And so what if it's a cruel death? That's life. And living is the slowest form of suicide.
I don't think the world would go vegan from now to tomorrow. The more people go vegan, the smaller is the demand for meat, so people would produce less cows. Did you know, that cows are made pregnant mechanically every year? That's a pretty horrible business v_v
Haha, yeah. I don't know how to solve the problem. I really like milk and I would probably start drinking it again, if it was taken from teh cow by hand. This would even be possible, if everyone would use less, sothat the industry doesn't have to produce more and more, but could actually care for the needs of the animals. Of course it would become really expensive and the positive effect for the environment would be taken away, since they will still need the space. But currently I can't drink milk. I have seen some cruel stuff, which erases all of my appetite. :S I just don't want to support what it is like, now.
I don't think torturing animals is what nature wants us to do. Of course everyone should choose for himself, if he wants to eat animal products or not. But you have to agree, that it is not necessary to make their life so horrible before they are killed. (Yes, there actually are little farmers who care for their animals, but I am talking of the big meat industry, where they don't even invest the time or money to give them a proper anesthesia and sadly this is the most bought meat) Also nature didn't make us to meateaters. We can be perfectly healthy with a plantbased diet. Furthermore animal products make us ill. There's a nice video about it, if you are interested: youtu.be/30gEiweaAVQ
That's a pretty sad opinion about life (If you struggle with any problems, feel free to tell me about it, if you want <3 ) I think everyone should be given the opportunity to enjoy his life. Animals have feelings too, they suffer as much as a human would in this situation. Imagine you were taken away from your mother after your birth, sothat you don't drink her milk? Are you male? -> You will be killed. Are you female? You will be raised in a little cage, where you can't even turn around. You are not allowed to move too much, sothat your meat stays tasty. You will be kept pregnant, sothat you don't stop giving milk, but every child will be taken away from you. (There's a study, that proves cows atually feel love and suffer from not seeing their children just as much as humans do.) You are milked by a machine every day. That doesn't only hurt, it also causes multiple diseases. (causes pus and blood in the milk everyone drinks btw) When your milk fee decreases, you will be sent to the slaughterhouse as well. I don't even want to start talking about the slaughterhouse >_<
I am sorry for writing so much, but I thought it would be helpful to say how they actually live. No animal deserves that. and why all that? Beause it tastes good. Yup, thats all. Everyday animals suffer and are killed, sothat we can enjoy our meal. (It's not even that much of a change to go vegan, soya milk is very delicious as well. )
Haha, sorry. I tend to write books when it comes to anything I really support. Here's a site, which answers your question shorter, than I ever could: www.vegan.com/answers/
This is what animal products do to our bodies: youtu.be/30gEiweaAVQ The video goes 50 minutes, but just watch the first 5, you will realize it's very funny and worth to watch! (When I started this video, I didn't intend to finish it, but it was mindblowing and entertaining. In the end this is the impulse, which made me inform myself about veganism and turned me into a vegan! c: )
And the non-vegan thingy was "That's a pretty sad opinion about life (If you struggle with any problems, feel free to tell me about it, if you want <3 )" I still mean it, if you want to talk about anything, just private message me
I don't really want to talk about anything. I wrote that a while ago and to be honest, don't really remember. But I know why I wrote it. And just allow me to give some advice...
When you are a group of people fighting for something, try not to be represented by loud, overbearing, crazed, idiotic lunatics.
Same with Christians. Same with feminists. Same with fandoms.
Because when they seem to be the ones doing all the talking, it just makes me want to hate whatever they're doing. I almost began to hate Hetalia and avatar just because of those damn idiots =_= But I could never do that. And since I was never part of Christianity (entirely) and feminism along with vegan/vegetarian-ism, I just practically dislike them severely altogether. Plus I have seen those rumors about vegans and vegetarians feeding their animals only vegetables and non-meat products...and for a dog to not even have a say in that is kind of contradicting yourselves in animal freedom and if the dog talked, I bet he would have preferred bacon.
I try to respect this...and I have become so close...but then something always throws me off again. And so what if animal products are hurting us? We are humans. Everything seems to hurt us. Everything seems to be after us. Are we really focusing on the dangers of meat rather than drugs/alcohol right now? WE HAVE BIGGER PROBLEMS. Like I said; Everything tries to hurt us. And I don't blame them.
Don't worry, I am all alone. I like to see people as individuals not groups. I've got a vegan friend, but the only fighting we do takes place in the kitchen, when we try to cook new recipes. If a person is vegan or not, doesn't make me like him/her more or less. Well, I am happy for the environment and appreciate their abstinence, because it means more animals will stop being totured. But he can still be an idiot! There are black sheeps in every group, don't let them take away what you like.
Naaaw, you see? These are the idiots I'm talking of. I've seen a tumblr post about vegans, who fed their animals only plants. This is not even the "vegan way". Really vegan would be, if you didn't own a pet, except it's an animal which can't survive without your help, because of the suffering caused by breeding. But if you do, give it what it needs.
I totally agree with you! 98% of the food sold in supermarkets can give you cancer. That's one of the scary facts my exboyfriend learned during his education. Alcohol and drugs are a serious topic as well, but I can't tell you what is worse. Everyone knows that alc and drugs are unhealthy. But noone does know how to beat cancer. Have you seen the video? They said while meat eaters have a chance of 9% to beat a growing cancer, vegans have a chance of 70%!! That's quite a lot. I am 20 years old, but I've seen more than 10 people die from cancer. None of them knew about the vegan diet. Advertisement lies everywhere. We think meat would give us strenght and milk would be good for our bones. Most doctors even know, but shall not tell sick persons. That's all so stupid.
You can't just deny facts and say studies conducted are false because you say so.
But for the sake of argument, you believe that it's justifiable to eat anything as long as it does not involve pain. In which case, there are methods of slaughtering meat sources by swiftly making an incision to the front of a throat, carotid artery, windpipe, and jugular veins so that the animal looses consciousness before the pain even kicks in.
Yeah, but the animal had a capacity of actually being a free, happy animal. Or a domesticated pet for that matter. And even though a death may be quick and "painless" it doesn't mean that it's not cruel. Animals for slaughter generally have inhumane conditions BEFORE slaughter. And most meat is factory farmed now, and it's not as easy and painless for the animals. The animals have terrible lives before the slaughter.
Anyways, we are going away from the beauty of this piece. Sorry if I was rude.
And plants don't? See, that's what I've been saying. Your justification for eating plants is that they don't feel pain. Yet when other life forms such as animals are concerned, it is "cruel" despite the no pain method.
However, it seems that you've branched into two different types of conducts. One way is the aforementioned deep and quick neck slicing (also known as the kosher or halal method) mostly practiced by Muslims and Jews, the other is the factory raised where they stun the animal, in which it suffers before it dies. There's a clear distinction between the two.
